We've used Butler's restaurants for many special occasions. It's a quaint, elegant dining space nestled on the Brown Property at Crown Mansion. It has undergone changes in management and this time it really showed up in the guest experience. The service was poor though not all of it due to the server. Typical points of service including ensuring glasses were full, wine poured etc. was not done. The bread arrived at the table 35 minutes into our being sat, the starters (for which only a couple people in our group ordered) 60 minutes into the service and the mains came 2.15 minutes later. Other tables were complaining likewise and it seemed all were overwhelmed. I saw servers frustrated as facing all the complaints and there was no F&B Manager or next level person trying to placate the guests. Our server remarked she was new but with extensive experience but had just been "thrown in, sans training". There didn't seem to be a next level mgt. person for the servers to direct customer complaints too. The food arrived room temperature to cold for some and we sent some parts back as a result. The 2.15 hour wait time had our guests fidgety and the guest of honour fell asleep waiting. Overall, extremely disappointed. The new management has a lot of work to do getting this back on par.
The place to go when you're feeling elegant and want the full treatment. The food is also impeccable haute cuisine. Not cheap, but that would be ridiculous!
I did not eat in this resturant but just visited this Manor in Qualicum beach which is across the street from the Golf course. This Manor is 105 yrs old and the original rooms are naned after such guests as John Wayne/and other movie stars that frequently visited and stayed in such rooms.Right now they have rooms celebrating there 105 yrs at $105.00 per night(regular $250.00)and they have built on sides with villas...1 bedroom 1200 sq ft fully furnished which are $150.00.....
Were celebrating a special occasion and were looking for a dinner out. Food was good for the most part but the service was lacking. Bread came well after we were seated, like an afterthought, table was not cleared of used dishes, nor water or wine glasses topped up without prompting. On asking about a food item on the menu, our server did not know the answer and had to check with the kitchen. Not very professional. We expected much more for the calibre of restaurant this purports to be. Prices high, service low!
Had another lovely dinner at Butler's this evening. Saturday night is Prime Rib night and the meal was delicious. My mother had the duck which was amazing. Dessert was lovely, flavourful and light. The menu is small but fresh and I have never had a bad meal here. The waiter was incredibly kind and we received the best service - extraordinary for the Island where good servers are hard to find. This place is a jewel.
